For foot files, grit indicates how aggressive the file removes skin. 60 grit is the coarsest option, excelling at removing hard corns and thick calluses. 80 grit is coarse, ideal for severely roughened skin. 100 grit is medium, suitable for general callus reduction on moderately rough skin. 120 grit provides a medium-fine finish for less severe roughness. 180 grit is fine, perfect for smoothing and polishing skin after initial callus removal. Start with the coarser side and finish with the finer side for a smooth result.

Clean after each use with a stiff brush under running water to remove all skin debris from the abrasive surface. Disinfect with a salon-grade liquid disinfectant appropriate for the file material. Plastic and wooden files cannot be autoclaved — use cold disinfection only. Metal file bases (such as the MBE-10) can be autoclaved or sterilised in a dry heat oven. Allow all files to air dry completely before storing or reusing. Replace wooden files when the abrasive surface becomes worn.
