Care & Sterilisation

Keep your crescent nail files hygienic and effective with these guidelines:

Sterilisation: These are single-use disposable files designed for one client per file. Dispose of the file after each client to maintain salon hygiene standards.

During use: The special anti-clogging coating prevents abrasive buildup. If needed, brush organic dust from the surface with a dry nail brush between nails.

Between clients: Do not attempt to sterilise or reuse. The mineral abrasive and foam substrate are not designed for autoclave, UV, or chemical sterilisation cycles.

Storage: Store unused files in their original packaging in a dry location away from direct sunlight. The mineral abrasive is water-resistant and will not swell from humidity, but prolonged moisture exposure may affect the adhesive layer.

Replacement: Use one file per client session. Discard immediately if the abrasive surface shows visible wear, peeling, or loss of grit texture.

FAQs

What is the difference between the crescent shape and a straight nail file?

The crescent (also called "banana" or "half-moon") shape has one curved side and one straight side. The curved side follows the natural contour of the cuticle area, making it safer and more precise for filing near the skin. The straight side is used for shaping the free edge of the nail. This dual-purpose design makes the crescent shape the most versatile file shape for professional manicure and pedicure.

How do I choose the right grit combination?

Match the grit to your client's nail type. For artificial nails (acrylic/gel), start with coarser grits: 80 for heavy removal, 100 for shaping, 150 for finishing. For natural nails, use finer grits: 180 for gentle shaping and 240 for final smoothing before coating. Dual-grit files like 100/180 or 150/240 let you shape and finish with a single tool. Never use grits below 150 on natural nails without extensions — the coarse abrasive can damage the nail plate.

What is the difference between Expert, Exclusive, and Smart crescent files?

Expert (NFE-40) files use the proprietary "Expert White" abrasive, come in 25-piece bulk packs, and are single-use disposables — ideal for high-volume salons prioritising hygiene. Exclusive (NFX-42) files are larger (178 × 30 mm), use a premium long-lasting abrasive, are reusable, and come individually packaged — designed for luxury salon experiences. Smart (NFB-41) files match Expert dimensions (162 × 25 mm) in convenient 5-piece sets, offering professional quality at a value price point.

Can mineral nail files be used with water (wet filing)?

Yes. STALEKS mineral nail files feature a water-resistant flexible plastic base that does not swell or degrade from contact with water. This makes them suitable for both dry and wet filing techniques, as well as safe for standard liquid disinfection between clients (Exclusive reusable files) or for use during wet manicure services.

How should I dispose of single-use nail files responsibly?

Used disposable nail files (Expert 25-pack and Smart 5-pack) should be discarded after each client as part of your salon's standard waste disposal. They cannot be recycled due to the mixed-material construction (plastic, foam, mineral abrasive). Place used files in a covered waste bin and dispose of with general salon waste according to your local council regulations.
