Care & Sterilisation

To keep your STALEKS Classic scissors in top condition:

• After each use, wipe blades clean with a lint-free cloth and rinse under running water.

• Disinfect with an approved instrument disinfectant solution between uses.

• Sterilise in an autoclave (up to 134°C) or dry-heat oven if required. Dry thoroughly before storage.

• Apply a drop of instrument oil to the joint pivot once a month to maintain a smooth, seamless stroke.

• Check blade alignment by making a test cut on paper periodically — blades should meet evenly along their full length.

• Store in a dry case or pouch with blades closed.

FAQs

What are multipurpose nail scissors used for?

Multipurpose nail scissors (also called multi-purpose manicure scissors) are designed for both nail trimming and cuticle work, making them a versatile tool for a complete at-home manicure or pedicure. Unlike dedicated nail scissors, multipurpose designs typically feature elongated blades that are suitable for trimming the free edge of the nail, removing excess cuticle, and general nail shaping. The STALEKS Classic and Beauty & Care multipurpose scissors are recommended for personal home care use.

Can STALEKS multipurpose scissors be sterilised?

It depends on the series. The STALEKS Classic SC-30/1 is manufactured from medical-grade stainless steel and can be autoclaved and dry-heat sterilised. The Classic SC-31/1 is made from AISI 420 steel with a glossy coating — it is NOT recommended for sterilisation in a dry-heat oven or autoclave. Use chemical disinfection only for SC-31/1. The STALEKS Beauty & Care SBC-10/3 and SBC-11/3 are made from medical-grade stainless steel but are intended for home use and chemical disinfection — autoclave and dry-heat sterilisation are not recommended for the Beauty & Care series.

What is the difference between straight and curved scissor blades?

Straight blades (like those on the SC-31/1 and SC-30/1) cut in a flat, linear plane — they are ideal for trimming the free edge of the nail straight across or making precise straight cuts for cuticle work. Curved blades (like the SBC-10/3 and SBC-11/3) follow the arc of the nail plate, making it easier to shape the nail edge to follow its natural curve in a single stroke. For general multipurpose use, both perform well — the choice comes down to personal preference and technique.

Can STALEKS scissors be sharpened?

Yes — STALEKS scissors can be professionally resharpened. The Classic and Smart series are factory-sharpened to a high standard, but after extended use they can be returned to a professional instrument sharpener. The Beauty & Care series is designed and priced for home use; sharpening is possible but not typically cost-effective. If your scissors feel like they are dragging or folding rather than cutting cleanly, resharpening will restore performance. Never attempt to sharpen scissors yourself with a household sharpening rod — this can misalign the blade geometry.
